A conference is exciting. The hustle and bustle of attendees stopping by each booth to learn about new products, services, processes, and technologies they can use; filing into an auditorium to find a seat for a lecture on an exciting new tool; and meeting up with that person from another firm that you’ve only ever spoken to via email.

But conferences are also an important tool that law partners can use to keep your finger on the pulse so you (and your firm) don’t get left behind. With almost half of lawyers starting to use AI in their daily practice, those who want to keep up should be learning about the latest and greatest in AI tech. Conferences bring a lot of these technologies under one roof, giving you invaluable time to learn more.

Robert Southwell of Southwell Law put it succinctly: “Conferences and webinars are a must if you want to stay current in this field. The legal landscape changes so fast with new regulations, case law, technology...if you're not actively learning, you fall behind pretty quickly.”

From big conferences like Legal Tech Week or the Clio Cloud Conference to a smaller local event relevant to your firm, attending legal conferences can be of great value to your firm’s growth.

Let’s look at some can’t-miss upcoming law events for 2025 and beyond.

What Is a Legal Conference?

A legal conference is a gathering of those working or studying in the legal field (lawyers, students, interns, paralegals, etc.) to share ideas and learn more about emerging technologies and trends in the legal space. These conferences can be good opportunities for those in the legal field to network with their peers, deliver or attend presentations on processes that work for their firm, or discover more about tech that they can use to make their daily lives easier.

What Are the Benefits of Attending Legal Conferences?

It’s important for those working in the legal field to keep their finger on the pulse. Your firm will likely lose out on business if you aren’t as fast, thorough, or productive as competing firms that are using better technology to get the job done.

Attending law tech conferences helps you learn about what technologies other firms are using and what works, so you can tap into the same solutions.

Attending legal conferences can also have the following benefits:

  • Networking opportunities with other legal professionals who you can use as mentors, collaborators, or even partners if you want to change firms later in your career.
  • Exposure to diverse perspectives on legal issues that can help you form a comprehensive and diverse view of the field.
  • Educational opportunities via panels and lectures, which for some attorneys can count toward the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements that lawyers must fulfill to keep their licenses.

Ella Hickman, attorney at Hickman Family Lawyers, says legal conferences help her continue to learn and grow in her practice as well as connect with others in the industry.

“I think they are great — not only for the knowledge you can gather there, but for the collegiality. It is an opportunity to hear from your peers and colleagues, catch up, vent about the work and the pressure we are all under.”

How Does Legal Tech Help Lawyers?

Legal tech can help lawyers streamline their workflow, keep track of important case files, quickly transcribe lengthy audio or video content, and manage complex legal projects without getting behind schedule or disorganized.

For example, a case management system can help you keep track of each part of your case, assign different tasks to different members of the legal team, and collaborate with each other to get action items done. Additionally, a transcription service like Rev can save you hours of combing through audio or video interviews by providing a quick and accurate transcription of your audio and pointing out the best and most actionable insights.

Get The Most From Your Conference Experience

You likely won’t remember every moment of an interesting panel or discussion. And that business card you picked up from a tech vendor you wanted to check out? It may or may not make it home with you. Being prepared can help you make the most of your conference experience by making sure you can remember the most important insights you’ve gathered, people you’ve talked to, and action items you’ve given yourself for later.

A few ways you can get the most from your conference experience include:

  • Record panels you attend so you can remember what you learn (and then transcribe them with a service like Rev).
  • Plan your schedule ahead of time to make sure you prioritize the panels you want to see the most.
  • Talk to as many people as possible to make the most of the networking opportunities that conferences provide.
  • Take notes to reference later, either with an iPad or a classic pen and paper.

Make sure to check out the vendor and exhibitor booths to learn more about different technology options that are available to you.

Conference Without Confusion

Attending conferences can be a great benefit to you, your career, and your firm as a whole — if you do it right, that is. The same way Rev can help you maximize your conference experience, it can also help you in your day-to-day workflows. Rev can help transcribe hours of interviews, video, and audio materials, then point out the most important things you need to know.
